Step Out of the OCD Loop

OCD doesn’t look the way most people expect. It’s not just hand-washing or checking the stove — it’s doubt that won’t let go, thoughts that feel dangerous or wrong, and compulsions that bring only a moment of relief before the cycle starts again.

At Resilience Room Counseling, OCD treatment is our primary focus. We work with adults and teens experiencing every subtype of OCD — from harm and ROCD to Pure O, scrupulosity, and sensorimotor OCD — using the most effective, evidence-based treatments available.

What Is OCD Treatment?

OCD therapy is not traditional talk therapy. It’s structured, skills-based work that targets the cycle keeping you stuck — not just the thoughts themselves. We draw from three gold-standard approaches: ERP (Exposure & Response Prevention), ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), and I-CBT (Inference-Based CBT). Most clients begin to notice real change within 8–12 sessions.

OCD Subtypes We Treat

We work with adults and teens (ages 15+) experiencing all forms of obsessive-compulsive disorder,

including (but not limited to):

Every theme looks different, but the loop is the same:

Thoughts/sensations/Images → Anxiety → Compulsions → Brief relief

Therapy helps you break that cycle and rebuild self-trust

What OCD Therapy Looks Like

OCD treatment is collaborative, structured, and deeply human. We integrate three evidence-based approaches:

ERP (Exposure & Response Prevention)

The gold standard for OCD. We’ll gradually help you face feared thoughts, sensations, or situations without performing compulsions — retraining your brain to tolerate uncertainty.

ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)

Builds psychological flexibility and self-compassion. Instead of trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts or feelings, ACT helps you make room for them while living in alignment with your values.

I-CBT (Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

Targets obsessional doubt at its source — helping you understand how false fears are formed and rebuild trust in your reasoning, intuition, and reality.

What to Expect

Therapy is typically is structured weekly or biweekly for 50 minutes. For those who want accelerated progress, we also offer OCD and Anxiety Intensives, which involve longer or more frequent sessions designed to accelerate treatment and help break throuhg stuck patterns. Intensive options can be customized to the needs of the client and should be discussed with your therapist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sessions are typically 50 minutes weekly or biweekly, or can be offered as intensive sessions for those wanting a more immersive reset or deeper therapeutic focus.

No. Every client starts where they are. Some begin with cognitive or inference-based work (I-CBT) or ACT before moving into ERP — and some never do exposures at all. Therapy is tailored to your individual needs. ERP is powerful, but it’s never forced. The process is collaborative and paced to match your readiness, helping you build confidence one step at a time.

We treat all OCD presentations — including intrusive thoughts that feel purely mental, like moral, relationship, harm, or existential obsessions. Even when compulsions aren’t visible, they often appear as internal rituals — rumination, reassurance seeking, or analyzing thoughts for certainty. Therapy focuses on identifying and interrupting these loops so you can tolerate uncertainty with greater ease.

That’s one of the most common questions we hear. OCD and anxiety often overlap — both can involve fear, uncertainty, and physical discomfort — but what sets OCD apart is how you respond to that distress. With OCD, distressing intrusive thoughts, images, or sensations trigger a strong urge to do something to feel better or gain certainty. These actions or mental behaviors are called compulsions.

Compulsions aren’t always visible, like washing hands or checking locks. They can also be internal — silently repeating phrases, counting, analyzing, seeking reassurance from loved ones or the internet, or mentally reviewing situations for safety.

When this cycle of doubt → anxiety → compulsion → temporary relief repeats, it strengthens OCD’s grip.
Therapy helps you notice and step out of that pattern, rebuilding trust in yourself and your life.

Both online and in-person OCD therapy can be highly effective. Evidence-based approaches like ERP, ACT, and I-CBT work well through telehealth. While in-person sessions can be beneficial for some, many clients find that telehealth lets them practice in the environments where their compulsions naturally occur.
That creates unique opportunities to tolerate urges without engaging in rituals — right where they happen — making progress feel more relevant and lasting.

Many clients notice progress within 8–12 sessions, though treatment length depends on symptom severity and how long OCD has been present. Some prefer intensive formats for quicker gains. What matters most isn’t speed, but consistency — showing up, practicing between sessions, and learning to make space for uncertainty in daily life.
